Austin Peay State University (APSU), established in 1927, was named for Clarksville native and former Tennessee Gov. Austin Peay and sits on a beautiful 195 acres in downtown Clarksville. Today, the University has grown to become a major regional provider of higher education with a student enrollment of 11,048 (2019) – as the fastest-growing public university in Tennessee.
APSU students can earn an associate, bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree, with 50+ graduate degree paths, and 125+ undergraduate degree paths. As the state’s leader in higher education for military-connected students, APSU offers many online degrees in eight-week terms, providing better options for military-connected students. APSU recently launched the state’s first-ever rotorcraft flight school that offers a bachelor’s degree – aviation science with a concentration in rotor wing (helicopters).
As the region continues to grow, the University continues to expand its footprint and enhance its ties with the Clarksville community through facility and property expansions, including continued growth on the south side of College Street, building a stronger direct connection into downtown Clarksville – a critical part of the University’s strategic plan.
