Clarksville to Host Bass Pro Shop’s Big Cat Quest Tournament

Published Thursday, August 6, 2015

Visit Clarksville and Ken Freeman Outdoor Promotions welcome the Bass Pro Shop’s Big Cat Quest tournament to McGregor Park on Saturday, August 8. The public is invited to help reel in the excitement as anglers cast into the Cumberland River in search of the largest catfish.

Weigh-in will take place at McGregor Park at 3:00 p.m. A comprehensive weigh-in of the best five fish will provide an overall best weight and will decide the winner. Please be aware that the courtesy docks at McGregor Park will be closed to the public for the entirety of the tournament.

The Bass Pro Shops Big Cat Quest is an annual catfish tournament with intense competition and big prizes. The qualifying tournaments take place over several months, in different cities, and end with a championship event in the fall that is typically televised for a national audience.

“Visit Clarksville is excited to work with Ken Freeman to once again bring the Bass tournament to town,” said Theresa Harrington, Executive Director of Visit Clarksville. “We welcome the participants and their families to Clarksville and encourage them to explore the attractions and amenities that make our area a unique place to spend a weekend or extended vacation.”

The Bass Pro Shops Big Cat Quest Tournament was originally scheduled to coincide with Rivers & Spires in April 2015, but the event was postponed due to flooding in the park. Clarksville was also home to the tournament in August 2013, and the event culminated in an exciting three-way tie for first place with a weigh-in of over 105 pounds for the three teams.

More than 100 accomplished tournament anglers from throughout the eastern United States are expected to compete on Saturday. The event is expected to draw a record number of fishermen to the Cumberland River.

All active duty military with an ID and wounded warriors are welcome to register and fish for free alongside a paid partner.

“We have a history of hosting the Bass Pro Shop’s Big Cat Quest events and are pleased to bring the tournament to fruition this summer. In addition to generating local revenue, this and other sporting events are an excellent opportunity to show new visitors the southern hospitality and unique offerings that make Clarksville a charming tourist destination,” said Harrington.
